Police Brutality:
Then vs. Now
"Police Brutality: Then vs. Now"
The Purpose
Comparing Police Brutality in Yesteryear to today's ongoing issues.
The purpose of this project is to provide a simple juxtaposition of the battles that took place during the Civil Rights Movement to the battles that take place. The main focus within this project is the United States of America, though international examples of police brutality involving Black people maybe included in an effort to expand the comparisons in the future of this project.
Some people within America feel that the race relations within America have dramatically improved since the 1900s, yet Blacks are still being profiled, discriminated against, arrested, and killed on the basis of race.
The thought that the United States is in a "post-racism" era in invalid.
This thought and concept impedes the mending of race relations in the U.S. by allowing those that feel they are not directly or noticibly affected by its existence to continue living in a bubble of unconsciousness and lack of awareness for an epidemic that is not a Black issue, but an American issue.
Articles will be linked together to allow for easy comparison of then vs. now.
Photos will be posted side-by-side to easily see the jarring similarities of yesterday to today.
Statistics and infographics created by expects in their respectful departments will be included to help place faceless numbers into a real-life perspective.
Thank you.
